The historic hamlet of Springton, population 600, is located in an amazing location to explore the local area: 

  • Right next door, in the historic Blacksmith's shop is "Bucks at Springton", open Fri/Sat/Sun from July 2023 for great coffees, breakfasts and dinners (check opening times on 0499 110 006)
  • Takeaway food, Pizzas and Indian Curries are available 7 days a week at the Springton General Store and Post Office 100 metres away - Open most nights till 7pm.
  • The cottages are directly opposite the Edenmae cellar door, for tasting platters (need to order prior to weekend) and food on 1st Friday of the month, and every Saturday and Sunday https://www.edenmae.com.au/

  • Many other wineries around the area, including Henschke, Suffield, Eden Hall, Fernfield, Eden Valley, Rileys, Mountadam, as well as the big ones like Jacobs Creek, Seppeltsfield and Wolf Blass - all of which are within 30 minutes drive.
  • A must visit (just 5 mins away) is the Mt Pleasant Farmers Market (every Saturday 8am-12noon) - (Have a wonderful cooked breakfast there) https://mpfm.org.au/ or the Barossa Farmers Market in Angaston - 20 minutes away

  • Historic Angaston is 20 minutes away, as well as Nurioopta, Tanunda (go via the Menglers Hill lookout) and Lyndoch

  • Some great restaurants in Angaston as well, including Otherness, Casa Carboni (Italian cooking lessons as well), Vintners and  the Wanera wine bar
  • Take a 1km hike to the beautiful view of the forests and valleys from Mount Pleasant Summit (5 minute drive to trailhead on Glen Devon Rd) https://www.walkingsa.org.au/walk/find-a-place-to-walk/mount-pleasant-summit-trail/

  • The Herbig family tree and historic Springton Lutheran Church are walking distance, as are peaceful paddocks and vineyards

  • On Fridays and most Saturdays, the Eden Valley Antique Furniture warehouse (much cheaper than you expect!) is open from 930am to 3pm  - 23 -29 Murray St - just 5 minutes drive. Worth a look!
  • Just 30 minutes to the Murray River and Mannum (and its Antique shops and riverside parks).
  • 15 minutes to the National Motor Museum in Birdwood https://motor.history.sa.gov.au/

  • Golf at Mt Pleasant and Districts golf course (4 minutes away) https://www.mtpleasantgolfclub.com.au/
  • If you have kids, you must visit the new Angaston Train Station Playground https://southaustralia.com/products/barossa/attraction/barossa-adventure-station
  • Monarto Safari Park - 40 minutes away transports you to Africa - the largest safari park outside of Africa.
  • Woodside chocolate factory and cheese factory
  • Karkoo nursery and cafe in Oakbank

In addition to the huge choice of Barossa restaurants and cellar doors, there are the following local outlets:

  • Eden Valley Hotel (5 minutes away) has a great restaurant, and offers a free courtesy bus on weekends. Call to arrange.

  • There is a beautiful Wood Oven Pizza restaurant at the Grand Cru Estate, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday (5 mins away) https://www.facebook.com/grandcruwoodovenrestaurant
  • Elysian Springs cellar door and pizza (4 minutes away on the road to Mt Pleasant.)
  • Two Bakeries are located in Mt Pleasant, the Mt Pleasant Cafe and Bakery, and the Lovell's Bakery 
  • 3 of SA's best restaurants are in Angaston, 20 minutes away - Otherness, Vintners and Casa Carboni

The General Store has most of your needs - the nearest full supermarket is in Birdwood or Angaston, but freshest food is at the Saturday Farmers' market, with over 25 outlets.
